Just when we thought we had had enough Pivarova to last a lifetime, we came across this fantastic editorial she did for French Vogue shot by Hedi Slimane. Makes me want to strive to dress like an insanely shiny Halston matador.
This shot of Riley Keough from NYMAG.com is just divine. The eighteen year old granddaughter of Elvis Presley is adorable and despite her apparently poor taste in men (Ryan Cabrera???) we can't help but love her a whole lot. Her hair is just so perfect for this summer makes us want to dash out the door and buy ourselves a crimper. Is that so wrong?
Summertime is upon us people and there is something about the summer sunshine that makes us want to slather ourselves in Bain du Soleil, strap on our Etro super gladiators and smile. But it isn't just us, as I was driving down Sunset right past Chateau who do I see but Natasha Poly smiling down on me in fabulous Gucci! Her lanky body twisting across the back of a huge marble edifice. It's just a terrific ad and I think even Firda Giannini might be smiling across the pond in Milan. Even better how refreshing it was to see the Stella girls cheerily grinning down the runway- there is something undeniably sexy about simple white cotton nightgown-esqe dresses, natural tumbling hair and a big ole toothy smile. Get happy, summer is upon us!
..get into the habit of enjoying a tall glass of ice water every time you do your makeup darlings? I have taken up this routine as I felt I wasn't fulfulling my daily allotment of H2O and now it seems like an everyday luxury.
..retire your dreary old purse for a delightful oversize clutch? The bigger the better as I have always said and this bag seems much more on trend than bulky old handbags. The oversized clutch can even translate to daytime, just tell everyone who asks it is your new "attache case." Nancy Gonzales makes a divine one in black crocodile.
..rip a pair of your old jeans to shreds a la Martin Margiela? This way you can wear jeans and still show a bit of leg. It's like having your cake and eating it too I would say.
So I know that Wintour's pet Brazilian Caroline Trentini has been in many, many recent Vogue editorials and taking a look back I started to see a trend. Is Conde Nast on a budget? They couldn't even fly her out somewhere interesting? What's with the studio background? And last but not least...what's with the jumping and leaping?
Which Marc model was arrested after being caught smoking in an airplane bathroom not once but twice? This same fresh faced diva was all set to open the Prada show and then decided that the clothes wouldn't do...so she took off. Move over Naomi!
So little lambs let's get green. As I see more and more GREEN issues of Vanity Fair and Vogue hit the stands I feel that it is my responsibility to review some earth friendly products that I believe are not only "supernatural" but still stylish and chic.
1. Origins organic silkening body spritz, $25.
This moisturizing mist will keep your summer tan looking radiantly dewy rather than scaly. Not only does it carry the USDA seal of approval, but it has a light formula that feels delicious on bare skin.
2. Rich Hippie organic perfume, $45.
How perfect would this be paired with the lovely folkloric dresses Gucci is offering? To die for! Rich Hippie products are made with organic and wildcrafted ingredients, peace, love and harmony...and with such a reasonable price tag there is no reason not to choose a few different scents off their hip website.
3. J Brand Organic denim jeans, from $200.
J brand just presented their new "Green Label" denim line and it does not disappoint. Instead of creating new horrific "Earth friendly" styles they stayed true to the cuts that women are dying to get their hands on such as the Monroe and the killer Love Story. J Brand even had the bright idea to pair each pair with a tote bag- emblazoned with tips on h
ow to be more conscious.
4. TOMS shoes for Tomorrow $35.
I love this idea. The designer Blake Mycoskie will donate one pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair of shoes bought. This cuts all the bullshit out of fundraising and donating 5% of the proceeds blah, blah, blah...and the shoes are totally cute and affordable. These will absolutely become my new "running outside for a cig real quick shoe."
I hope you all enjoyed these natural selections, and as I am sure many of you know there are tons more options out there for you sexy, earth conscious babes. Tomorrow is Earth Day- so lets spritz on some patchouli, throw on some green jeans and Birkenstocks and break out the Goji berries...
Ever since Garren loped off Maryna Linchuk's locks and created the world's most perfect bangs, I've been dying for more of her. Perhaps this is aided by the fact she is Meisel's new muse and completely kills it in the new Mulberry ads. These Belarus Beauties man, unstoppable.
..Head to Beverly Hills and spend an afternoon ogling the 20 mint condition vintage Balenciaga LBDs at Lily et Cie? Surely Rita Watnick will not let you try on these showstopping frocks but it quickens my pulse just thinking about all that fashion history.
..Purchase some so-bleached-they-are-white stonewashskinny jeans a la Kate Moss? Rock & Republic makes fantastic ones. Pair them with flat sandals, a white tank and it is the perfect invite for the shrunken little demin vest you have in the back of your closet yet never wear.
..Save yourself the embarassment of a false eyelash disaster and take a lash lesson at the Laura Mercier Lash Bar at Henri Bendel? For only twenty dollars you could save yourself a whole lot of lash-applique rage.
..Put your money where your mouth is and invest in something everlasting- gold! For the first time in history the price of gold has soared above $1,000 an ounce. Now that is what I call a golden oppurtunity.
Karlie Kloss is one of my favorite new faces on the runway this year. At the ripe old age of 15 she has walked in all the top shows, including 64 this season alone, even booking a Gucci exclusive last September and gracing the cover of Teen Vogue. But what we love most about this lanky teenage ballerina turned model? The spooky zombie stare that she dons every time she floats eerily down the catwalk. There is a stoned death look in her eyes and a little unstable swaying- undeniably captivating. This signature walk even caught the eye of front-rower and passe model Tyra Banks who did a horrible impression of Karlie last season at the Jill Stuart show and inciting rumors of a little model/model jealousy. Karlie recently was poached by NEXT from Elite and they are not pleased...(Elite is suing citing "improper compensation" as their claim) And you know what I think? The girl is most definitely worth it. So eat your heart out Tyra. You keep shaving poor girls' heads on ANTM, and Karlie- you keep doing exactly what you are doing. Because we can't get enough.
So, I have been crushing on this bag for a few months now. I have been sort of disappointed in the bag offerings this season but the YSL Besace Flap bag is a standout for me. Firstly, while I do adore trendy bags and totes, if I am going to spend an inordinate amount of money I want something that will last me past the constant influx of new trends. The Besace is just the ticket. The glorious and au courant tote is not only a wonderful investment, it looks like it would sit just perfectly on the shoulder and looks a little like your chic grandmother's college bookbag. Perhaps Alexa Chung owns one...the Besace does have that funky elegance that those Brits do adore.
While Chanel's Spring RTW collection may have received poor reviews, a tiny part of me loved Karl's ode to Americana. The denim was a tad overdone but it was the piles of tiny stars that adorned jumpsuits, 50's dresses and swingy trousers that signified a glorious return of fun in fashion. Stefano Pilati also played on this trend when he showed tangram like breastplates on his Spring runway.
In order to steer clear of looking like a housewife at a bicentennial parade somewhere in the flyover zone, keep the stars tiny like Kate Moss. Or maybe take those YSL's out on the town with a body conscious Herve Leger? So let's go be a little patriotic...America the Beautiful!
The link above will take you to the video lookbook for MK & A's unpretentious clothing line The Row. Great concept, great song, great fucking style. I believe it was styled by the Traina sisters, which is even more endearing. Whenever I hear Mickey Avalon's "So Rich, So Pretty" this is the girl I imagine. Like some sort of tragic heroine...divine.
The career of a model can last as little as a few seasons. There are some models however, who have true staying power. Kate Moss, Angela Lindvall, Shalom Harlow, and Natalia Vodianova to name a few. My favorite of these catwalk queens is undeniably Erin Wasson. She is gorgeous in that earthy, raw, Venice Beach way- killer. All of my guy friends dig her. Even with a longtime Maybelline contract she still has a strong personal street style, a brilliant collaboration with best bud Alexander Wang, a burgeoning jewelry line and a half pipe in her backyard. What's not to love?
Milan fashion week never quite gets my heart racing like Paris or New York. Gucci's fall RTW changed my entire perspective.
The hair was a perfect mix of Riley Keough and brit boho sensibility, the smoky eye like a drowsy morning after.
While this may seem like a new direction for Gucci, Frida Giannini kept it all sexy and true to the roots of the fashion house. How fabulous is the idea of "the rich hippie."
Slinky little mini dresses with bulleted, utilitarian belts, the suede and leather booties adorned in straps and grommets.
Perhaps the most fabulous thing of all is that this fall line is more accessible to women as you don't need every piece in a look to make a statement. Perhaps just the eastern bloc belt? The Cossack minidress? One or the other would do it.
Its such a shame I can't get my hands on this stuff before Coachella! How incredible would those dresses look in the desert? Hair flying wildly, cigarette in hand...
Somethings never go out of style. This ivory cuff belonged to Diana and is now Caroline's signature piece. (It would be mine instead, but she has the damned weasely wrists. Bitch!) I have yet to see anything even remotely like it in stores which makes it all the more deliciously unique.
As far as romantic rock and roll pairings go, I've been feeling a little let down since Pete and Kate's demise. Nothing inspires more than a chain-smoking model and her volatile rock star beau. Instead of mourning the breakup of my favorite love affair, I have transferred my energy to a new blossoming romance.
Alex Turner (Front man for Arctic Monkeys) and Alexa Chung (British TV personality and model) are pretty young things quite in love. Turner is the quirky adorable vocalist and songwriter for AM, and we can't help but smile at the thought of him and Chung painting the London-town red. (A good Chinese red DV would say) And Alexa, well I would say I'm moderately obsessed with her for the following reasons:
-"Old boyfriends have accused me of deliberately dressing to look ugly."
-"My style is at once scruffy and preppie, I'm like a spoilt brat who only has access to her grandmother's wardrobe."
-"I never dress to please men."
-"Basically, I want to look like I'm wearing a wig."
Sienna Miller watch your back. Alexa's beauty, wit and youth feel far more fresh for 2008.
